In close vicinity of the flat is the Gentsestraat with serveral small shops – a bakery, an excellent cheese shop, a fish shop, a shop for meat, fruit and gourmet food, boutiques etc.

The flat invites for resting, the city is calling and the beach is only five minuts away.

You can reach the centre of Den Haag in 15 minutes by bus or tram – the bus and tram stations are only two to three minutes from the flat. By bike it takes you also 15-20 minutes to the centre (you can rent a bike in many places). Den Haag offers a lot of art and culture (see below), nice shops – for fashion as well as for interior decoration (in Holland fashion is always one step ahead), very comfortable Cafés and numerous restaurants (especially Thai, Surinam and Indonesian specialties, but we can also recommend good Italian and Japanese restaurants – only minutes from the flat).

Experience the nearby nature: The beach can be reached in ca. six minutes on foot, even closer are the dunes. You can make an evening walk, a nature hike or you can jog along the beach for hours without seeing any buildings or other signs of civilization.

A bicycle lane goes straight through the dunes – if you are on for it it goes as far as Amsterdam (but that’s a rather long ride!). Back from your walk you can enjoy your sundowner in one of the many beach cafés with a splendid view on the sun and the sea.

The Dutch are experts in the art of making you feel cozy and comfortable. There are countless Cafés in which you can be inspired by the snug interior and enjoy a comfortable time having tea, coffee, Genever or Belgian beer and delicious pastries. You will have the constant feeling that the world is at home here (is it because of the closeness of Europe’s biggest port – Rotterdam? – which by the way is also worth an excursion and can be reached in 20 minutes by train – a very modern city). Amsterdam and Delft can also be visited in one day, and if you would like to see Brussels we recommend to stay overnight. The easiest way in Holland to get around is by bike – and it’s the most normal way to move around here. The street picture is ruled by bicycles and Dutch car drivers are very cosiderate of the bikers. On the other side getting a parking lot is a catastrophe. In the near surrounding of the flat you can park your car without fee only after 22 hours. During the day parking without fee is only possible as far as 1,5 km from the flat.

Cinema: Most movies in Holland are shown in the original version. One of the biggest cinemas is located only seven minutes on foot from the flat (Kurhausweg 2A). In the city centre we recommend Das Filmhius/Den Haag, Spiu 191 for more ambitious movies.

Our favourite Café (but only in summer – open until first weekend in October) is dewaterkant in the Westbroekpark – ca. ten minutes on foot from the flat direction city centre. It is not easy to find – there you see, it is a „gem“. (you can look it up on the Internet: dewaterkant.nl) The Westbroekpark is not allowed for dogs and has a very large and impressive rose garden. The Café is located behind this garden, near the canal. You can also rent rowing boats there and the food is especially good.

There is also a big theatre reachable in a few minutes on foot. If the weather is bad, we also like to spend some time in the library in the city centre, it is ultra-modern, serves good coffee and snacks and the newspapers are – of course – from all over the world.

We ourselves have enjoyed Den Haag very much – for 30 years already!

Unmittelbar in der Nähe der Wohnung – auf der Gentsestraat gibt es kleine Läden, einen Bäcker, ein hervorragender Käseladen, Fischladen, Fleisch-, Feinkost und Früchteladen, Boutiques etc

Die Wohnung lädt zum Verweilen ein, die Stadt ruft und der Strand ist nur 5 min. entfernt.

Das Zentrum von Den Haag ist mit Bus/ Tram in ca. 15min zu erreichen (die Bus/Tram-Haltestelle ist 2-3 min. von der Wohnung entfernt). Mit dem Fahrrad sind es ebenfalls 15 – 20 min. (Fahrräder gibt es vielerorts zu leihen). Den Haag bietet viel Kunst und Kultur – siehe auch weiter unten – schöne Geschäfte – sowohl für Mode als auch für Interieur (die Mode ist in Holland immer einen Schritt voraus), sehr gemütliche Cafes und zahlreiche Restaurants (besonders Thai-, Surinamische und Indonesiche Spezialitäten. Wir können aber auch gute Italienische Restaurants und Japaner empfehlen – in Gehminuten von der Wohnung entfernt).

Natur erleben: der Strand ist in 5-7 min. zu erreichen. Noch schneller zu erreichen sind die Dünen. Ein Abendspaziergang, eine Wanderung oder joggend am Strand entlang ist stundenlang möglich ohne auf Gebäude oder andere Zivilisation zu treffen.

Durch die Dünen führt ein Radweg – wenn man möchte bis Amsterdam (das ist aber weit!!). Zurück vom Spaziergang oder am Abend kann man einen Sundowner in einen der zahllosen Strandcafes mit herrlichem Blick auf die Sonne und das Meer genießen.

Überall merkt man, dass die Welt hier zu Hause ist (liegt es am größten Hafen Europas, in Rotterdam? – übrigens auch ein Ausflug wert und nur 20min per Bahn entfernt – eine sehr moderne Stadt). Amsterdam und Delft sind auch in einer Tagestour zu erreichen – für Brüssel empfehlen wir eine Übernachtung dort. Am einfachsten ist es, sich mit dem Fahrrad fortzubewegen – fast alle Holländer tun dies. So ist auch das Straßenbild geprägt von Fahrradfahrer und diese im Bewusstsein der Autofahrer. Dafür ist das Parken eine Katastrophe. Im Umkreis der Wohnung parkt man erst ab 22 Uhr gebührenfrei. Ansonsten muss man sein Auto ca. 1,5 km entfernt abstellen.

Kino: Die meisten Filme in den Niederlande sind in Originalton

Ca. 7min. entfernt von der Wohnung in Richtung Kurhaus gibt es eines der größten Kinos – das Pathe´ (Kurhausweg2A). In der Innenstadt für anspruchsvolle Filme empfehlen wir: Das Filmhius/Den Haag, Spiu 191

Unser Lieblingscafe (aber nur im Sommer – bis 1. Oktoberwochenende offen ) dewaterkant im Westbroekpark – ca. 10 Gehminuten von der Wohnung Richtung Innenstadt. Es ist nicht ganz einfach zu finden – es ist eben eine „Perle“. (Unter dewaterkant.nl im Internet zu finden). Der Westbroekpark ist Hundefrei und hat einen enorm großen Rosengarten. Das Cafe befindet sich gewissermaßen dahinter, am Kanal. Man kann sich hier auch Ruderboote ausleihen und wirklich gut essen! Ein sinnstiftendes Cafe.

Ein großes Theaterhaus befindet sich ebenfalls in wenigen Gehminuten von der Wohnung.

Bei schlechtem Wetter sitzen wir gerne auch mal in der Bibliothek im Zentrum, es ist hochmodern, der Cafe und der Snack sind gut und die Zeitungen stammen – natürlich wieder – aus der ganzen Welt.
